Nova Girls: Kissing Canvas

 photo NGKC-Thumbnail_zps203bfe46.jpg

A photo comic that makes you embarrassed for everyone involved... except for maybe the "writter."

I would like to see a photo comic with all the TGWTG characters doing nothing but fight scenes in funny poses! At least it'll be more cohesive than this comic!

you should do an entire episode dedicated to Greg Land and his horrible horrible "art".

say what you will about Liefeld's art, but at least his is original and shows that effort was put into it.

HURRAY! :) I got to see you scream WHAT! in confusion more. :)

You can basically narrow the date of publication to 1990. 1989 was the year George H.W. Bush took office, and by 1991, Lobdell was writing Uncanny X-Men.

Well I didn't think we'd be reading a Scott Lobdell comic today. When you figure out what you can say about "Red Hood & the Outlaws" that you feel can add to the discussion rather that repeat it, please do review it. I'm so ready for a good torching on that book.

This was a nice little look at his career prior though. Oh my, he never knew what he was doing.

What orphans?? Really that last bit was suppose to be a joke because it wasn't funny comic. Was not funny.

Especially with the suppose it anti-sexists lines from the "heroines"..You know what nevermind I'll just cut this short.

When Codename Kids Next Door did their bra joke it was funny & clever.
Comic Your's was just STUPID....

This comic was not funny. But neither was your jokes in this episode. From all AT4W episodes I watched so far, I hate this one the most.
As for the stinger, I have only two words: PLEASE DON'T.

One more English error:

"And even LESS personalities" should be "even FEWER." Less "personality" would have been fine, though.

While I can't deny that there was some effort put into it, he doesn't put as much effort into it as necessary for decent artwork.

Believe it or not, but drawing is a skill ANYBODY WHO HAS WORKING EYES IN THEIR SKULL can learn with formal training. Talent might give you a headstart or enable you to learn more quickly than others, but nothing should keep him from sucking to this day.

And it's his refusal to go to drawing school that makes him as bad as Greg Land, since tracing images still takes some "effort".

Oh Lewis, I could hug you right now. Seems like you need it too.

I loved this review. I like the long stuff in general. If you were to ask me Which review is your best I'd still say the One More Day review. The Kamandi at Earth's end review last week was also good. Truth-be-told, I think you're funniest when you're angry.

I know you've said you don't want to review Red Hood and the outlaws because You don't feel you have anything to add. But maybe you should review it anyway to 1: get it out of your system. 2: Do it for posterity.

Speaking of the DCnU have you considered doing something with Harvest as a guest star? Linkara the Character killed Cable for less and you managed to integrate "Watly" into your Silent Hill reviews to a brilliant affect.
I'm sure you'd rather just forget about Harvest but You made him so funny with that silly voice it would be a shame not to use him again.
And I'd just like you to review something from the DCnU again because while you're good when you're angry. You're great when you're angry and deeply analytical (Again, the One More Day review).

Thanks.

That ending with everyone fighting in the lobby for no reason and then the comic page itself getting ripped makes this feel like a bad attempt at ripping off the nonsense that went down in the climatic brawl scene on the Warner Bros lot in Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" movie, with only that nonsense being legitimately funny while this nonsense just... WHAT?!

William Keating said...

Okay you have me there, but I know that the French do not pronounce double-Us as Vs like the German, it is very rare in the language, the only time it comes up are in foreign words and they pronounce the way it is in English.

I think we can chalk it up to Scott Lobdell just being kind of stupid there.

Even threatening a fellow colleague with kidnapping and rape?

That's what got him kicked off the site, wasn't it?

Felix Brunschede said...

"Nope

You are wrong. I have seen many who at first seemed talentless be able to learn drawing or t least incorporate what they learned in drawing class into sculpting or painting. It's only a matter of commitment and good teachers.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Even threatening a fellow colleague with kidnapping and rape?

Threatened? No. Extremely poor and terrible taste in humor? Yes, but lots of people have that problem, sadly. Got him "kicked off the site?" Hell no.

He was never kicked off the site. How are people still making this mistake so many years later? He was voluntarily leaving the site, as he goes into in the commentary for To Boldly Flee. It was a mutual decision. The TIMING was what was awful.

But even forgiving all of that, what point did you have in bringing this all up? Spoony wasn't in the video, I don't recall him being referenced in the video (I've had a long weekend and it's a long video, so it's certainly possible I did), and there's no reason to bring him up in this comment thread.

You're putting too much effort into it Linkara and giving it more credit than it deserves. This wasn't that incomprehensible, you just have to dumb down enough to realize that it's an awful comic that was written seriously, and then they tried to salvage the horrible story with low level pretenses of being a parody.

Weird... I didn't even realize that Lobdell was writing both Teen Titans and Red Hood and the Outlaws. It's especially odd, since I actually liked his run on Red Hood, but couldn't STAND him on Teen Titans.

he was also writing 'action comics' making superman act like a dick to everyone, and along with Tom Defalco wrote that crossover that featured one of the more stupidly named villains ever ("H'ell") .

Ginormica von Dolemite said...

For whoever made the Spoony comment:

Spoony didn't "threaten" anyone. It was just supposed to be a silly joke, albeit a dark College Humor-esque one. Lupa just took it out of proportion, much like you did. And Spoony himself left the site out of his own volition because he wasn't feeling appreciated, it had nothing to with the joke.

Also, Spoony is Linkara's best friend, so calling him a rapist in Linkara's face is most likely not a wise idea.

Well at least I'm not alone in my Scott Lobdell. Hated his Titans run and hated red hood from the start looking through his bibliography the only thing I remember liking of his work is The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix but I was about 10 at the time so the last 15 years might have changed that. I'm so looking to the third issue, called Fun House, just by looking at the cover:http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/LiveData/Issue.aspx?id=5ed47dcc-c65d-4d22-9450-72a4da7d25d0. Grandpa Munster and more Lobdell bashing from Linkara equals instant classic.

At least Marville could reasonably be stated as having stupid ideas (like the stupid god plot and the talking dinosaurs and Wolverine etc.) around a generally acceptable premise (kid has time machine, does stupid things with time machine).
This on the other hand seems to be generally generic plot of "we don't like movie x, let's destroy movie x" which then gets convoluted and made into something like 4 plots that seem padded with repeated scenes and nonsensical escalations of violence to make it feel like something is being done, when it's mostly just filler for a plot that doesn't feel truly resolved in the end. So the plot is less cohesive than Marville and that's saying something
The more I read that description I just made the more it sounds like the Culling. Did nobody at DC read the man's portfolio of previous work?

It's a really odd coincidence that I'm seeing this episode after seeing *Nymphomaniac: Volume I*.

Oh, Lobdell, you amaze me.

Among the writers in DC's New 52, he's the one whose name I keep seeing brought up in the reboot's mishaps, second only to Dan Didio.

While looking for comics at a Books-a-Million, I happened upon one of the Teen Titans issues somewhere past the 20th issue. I figured "Eh, what the hell?" and sat down in a chair, looking at the first four pages for any sort of hook.

I barely remember what I was reading, but it might've been the fact that it wasn't a "jumping on" issue, and it was more of my fault for not having read any of the previous issues.

On the other hand, it might've also been because even if it IS out of place in a sequential story, each issue has to have some sort of hook to draw the reader in- A dramatic splash page, maybe, or possibly a reaction to some startling event("You blew up the WHAT?").

Needless to say, I got off on the wrong foot with Lobdell, and after hearing of his "mishaps", I do not feel inclined to take another step. I instead spent my money on a "Captain America vs the Red Skull" anthology, and that closed the book on the New 52 for me.

Felix Brunschede said...

Now that everyone harps on him, the only comic written by Lobdell I own is Teen Titans #17.

And I only have that one because over here in Germany they sell two american issues in one issue, resulting in me paying 3,99€ (Marvel) and 4,99€/5,99€ (DC), partially half of that goes to issues I did not even want to read, which is also why I now read in trades.

Teen Titans #17 was attached to Justice League #18, yes, the one with constipated Cyborg on the cover.

You know, usually they sell Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps back to back, or subsequent issues of one series like JLA... But this time they forced me to directly compare Geoff Johns and Jesus Saiz with Scott Lobdell and Barrows. And while Barrows sn't too bad(I mean, nobody can make Raven look dignified in her New52 design), it was not the smoothest of moves Panini Comics could've made.

I think the band-aid joke was basically just what you said it was--that a band-aid has more fabric in it than the outfit.

For contrast, and to further bring actual humor into it, Gilligan's Island did a take on that joke (long story), but actually made it funny.

The description for photo comics reminds me the fact there were two comic versions for "Power Rangers: The Movie"; the drawn version & the photo version. I had the drawn one for years since the movie came out, but the photo one I only had for a short time before selling both off at a store. I don't remember much of it other than how smooth the paper was. The picture from Sonic Live reminds me that I have it only for completion sake, but it also brought up something I think you find fascinating.
Some time ago, a Sonic fan site published a series of reviews for a story arc in Archie Comic's "Sonic the Hedgehog" series written by Ken Penders. The reviewer brings up the history of Penders and mentions his attempt at using the comics as a vehicle to launch an original comic series: Sonic Live was actually part of that attempt, but he later went so far as to hijack a 48-page special issue for a backdoor pilot to said comic, which was thinly disguised as a crossover issue between Sonic and friends & Image characters (Savage Dragon, Spawn, The Maxx, etc.). Here are two links for the brief history if you want to learn more:

Yeah...I'm just as confused about you about this. Girls named after money, bizarre stances, a bunch of random things, weird alien wrestlers and one of the most bizarre fourth wall breaking endings in comics. Oh and a very "Casino Royale" (1967 version mind you) random fight scene at the end with aliens. I can see how insane you'd get.

Next week should be fun...if the day after doesn't ruin it. Sort of hope we get to the madness of...Marcus.

My guess as to who the Nova Girls, Corporate Raiders, and Killer Secretaries are is that these were teams in a small women's pro-wrestling league. I had not heard about the Lobdell controversy. I paused the video and looked it up. (And now I have context for a great Gutters comic about it). *sigh* Why was he even asked to speak on that panel?

... what WAS the punchline supposed to be with the eighteen-hour bra supposed to be? Does Scott Lobdell know why it's called an eighteen hour bra in order to make a joke on it? (Gonna just guess no.)

It is the lawyer "Nova Girl" who pulls the comic page down right? I can't help but think this could be a reference/homage/rip-off of John Byrne's run on She-Hulk which featured her as a lawyer breaking the fourth wall. As mentioned the comic seems to be from something like 1990 (about the same time as that run of She-Hulk started). Although I'm not sure that would be enough time for such an influence to occur and I'm not clear it really resembles that run of She-Hulk (I have no read it myself just know it from its reputation).

Anyway fun as usual. Others have explained most of the things that made sense (as in I could see how they were supposed to be a joke, not really funny) to me but confused Linkara.

I didn't even know he wrote it until I checked the credits while first writing the script. And trust me, the fact that he was the writer had no baring on the review. The comic is crap regardless of who wrote it.

All it did was provide me an opportunity or two for a joke.

The issue, I think, Linkara is that comics in America mean something very different from Japanese manga. True, both are stories told through sequential art, but manga exist that are written for many demographics and are typically written by a single writer with a few assistants. Most people who read American comics would find themselves very surprised if they started reading a random manga without knowing that.

I have a feeling that, when they did this, they a)didn't have all those ladies in the same room for a lot of those shots (as evidence I submit the shot where one of the other team's members has 2 of the Nova girls 'in her arms' as the most obvious) and b) that they hadn't quite nailed down what the back grounds would look like (hence the ninja outfits in rather bright rooms).

Good luck keeping sane with the other 2 issues after you find them...

Still, he really dropped the ball with Red Hood and the Outlaws, along with Teen Titans. It reads like he saved the worst fan fiction from his teenage years and recycled it. Which explains (Wait, is that really?) Starfire.

... So following that logic is animated media anime and all religious text Christian?

I mean I'm not disputing the logic that comics and managa are the same thing because they're both sequential art... but to follow it up with 'comics are comics are comics' is like saying 'Frozen is an anime film because it's animated'. There are many significant cultural differences and styles that come into play.

So yes, comics and manga ARE sequential art, but that doesn't automatically mean that comics ARE manga. Otherwise someone could easily say "The Bible is a Buddist text because they're both religious texts'.

Not to mention that even though they are written by the person who created them, the rights to a manga still are owned by a publisher like Shueisha unless they are self-published. Which, aside from hentai, is rather rare.

seeing how you talk allot about skimpy outfits in this episode, I can't help but point you towards the anime Kill la Kill

It looks as if it was tailor-made to mock you.
It has all the things you hate - skimpy outfits, massive shoulder-pads, and pouches, lots of pouches

yet it's much better written than the stuff you review, and even better than most of the stuff you recommend

to top it all off, there is an in-universe reason for why the outfits are like that, and it makes perfect sense within that world's rules
to not spoil much, the more skin you show, the larger you'r shoulder-pads get, and the more pouches you wear, the more powerful you get

it also has a number of particularly vicious jabs at people who complain about fan-service

It's made by the same people who brought us FLCL, Panty & Stocking, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan

here's the very first scene of the anime
note that this is the tamest, most down to earth moment in the series and everything just escalates from here onward

Okay, fair enough in that regard and I did chew someone out earlier for making absolutist distinctions. Still, I hope my point at least comes across in the regard of "we call it comics here because the styles, page size, and general formats in American comics all tend to follow a similar pattern," the same goes for Fumetti in Italy, and then the same goes for manga in Japan.

You know, this comic makes me think of a Beast Machines fancomic I've read called "Obsidian's Lament", which used Beast Machines action figures photoshopped onto background stills from the show (as well a few self-made sets. Although, that might just be due to the fact that I thought Obsidian's Lament did a better job at integrating the CGI backgrounds with the real figures than this comic did integrating the real women with the hand-drawn artwork (probably because almost all of the characters were represented by action figures in that comic, compared to the dozen or so women here). Also, the story was a lot better.

Also, I did a google search to figure out who the Nova Girls are, and the only thing I can find is that apparently one of them ended up on Law and Order. The only thing I can think of is that they, the Killer Secretaries, and the Corporate Raiders were all obscure all-girl bands who did this comic in an attempt to boost their popularity, or all three groups were created and trademarked by the company who made this comic, and the women in the comic were just random women who were hired to do this comic.

I don't think it's a troll.

There's a ton of nasty rumors circulating around the web about the circumstances of Spoony's departure, and many people believe them to be true

Some of them even suggest that something even worse happened, and that there's been a cover-up on TGWTG, lead by Brad and Lewis.
(no, with great sadness I must say that I'm not joking)

A rape-accusation is one of the worst things that can happen to a man.
Even a simple rumor like this destroy a man's reputation for the rest of their life
(just look at Michael Jackson)

It's an advantage we women have, which some of us love to abuse
(I've been witness to girls accusing a guy of trying or threatening to rape them in order to discredit him way more often than I'd like)

No matter how much his friends and co-workers will keep telling people otherwise, whenever someone on the site (or related to the site) will mention things like sexual harassment or rape, people will always think of Spoony, regardless of his innocence

Tracey,

You are defending the same sort of Men's Right's Activism that allows rape culture to survive. "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" is a legal tenant *Intentionally Designed* to allow the guilty to walk free, with the alleged benefit of not imprisoning the guilty.

The US legal system is rape culture, with victim-blaming at its core. This culture will not be brought down until these ideas are stripped away.

A victim must have right to change xe's mind about consent at any time. There must be no burden on the victim to inform or resist. And there is absolutely no credence to the "Evil Feminists Accusing Mens of Rapin'" Don't exist, any more than Magic Bullets or helpful welfare states.

Do not perpetuate violence. The burden of proof must be on the accused.

Bill said...

N., your post was one of the most ill-informed and outright ludicrous posts I've ever read (and that's saying something considering the state of the internet). So, "innocent until proven guilty" is wrong? Then, during the Salem Witch trials the accusers were all perfectly right in what they were doing and it was up to those accused of witchcraft to prove their innocence. The "innocent until proven guilty" policy was implemented because of the fact that in many European societies innocent people languished in jail for long periods for simply being accused of a crime and having "respectable" people accuse them. As for your allegation that all claims of false rape are fictitious, in canvassing researchers and PROSECUTORS (you know, the people responsible for proving guilt), M. DiCanio found that most agree that somewhere between 2 and 8 per cent of all rape accusations are false ("The Encyclopedia of Violence," 1993). I realize that for you this is only evidence of some sort of conspiracy, but I think I'd be much more apt to believe a scholar's research as compared to whatever internet digging you think you've done on the subject. And, yes, NO MEANS NO, no matter what the situation, a woman has the right to decline the advances of a man and not to feel threatened by it. However, the idea that no woman would ever use the stigma that a rape allegation brings to her advantage is naïve and somewhat dangerous. Sorry, not all men deserve to go to jail. This is why we have a court system (and, yes, it's flawed), this is why we have trials, in order to assure that the truth at least has a chance to come out. But that wouldn't happen in your world, would it? Luckily, you're apparently not a person in a position to make decisions like these.

You know, when I saw the title in the line up I honestly thought it was girls from space that kissed paintings to summon warriors.

@N.

You are pushing a system that supports frivolous accusations

You are the exact sort of person that abuses our social norms in order to silence all criticism and objections

"innocent until proven guilty" is what keeps us from becoming a police state
otherwise anyone would be able to come-up with false accusations that are difficult to disapprove in order to get them out of their way

you are an example of the sort of people that keeps spreading and supporting rumors about innocent people like this

Also, you are abusing the issue of rape for the sake of shock value, believing it'll make you'r flawed arguments sound more legitimate

Wasn't there a Transformers manga like that?

@Tracey

To be fair, there have been just as ridiculous arguments on the other side of the fence, where apparently Spoony was evicted from the site thanks to some kind of elaborate conspiracy concocted by Lupa and one of the staff members of Channel Awesome (I don't recall her name). It was all because they didn't like that poor little snowflake who wouldn't dare say anything nasty unless provoked by those evil wenches who were deliberately using his mental disorders to oust him.

That's not an exaggeration either. Both parties are totally stupid.

N. is still talking nonsense though.

According to you'r logic, I can say that you lure children into you'r gingerbread house in order to consume their flesh, and it would be true.

After all, you can't prove you don't.

Sorry guys, but Linkara is kind of right. While they may have different styles and target different demographics, manga and comics are equivalent to each other. Both are forms of sequential art, they are just called something different in their respective countries.

Sequential art is called comics in the US (and possibly other English speaking countries), manhwa in Korea, and manga in Japan. Now can we please let this argument die? -_-

As for N, please stop talking nonsense.

False rape accusations do get thrown around and innocent people do go to jail for them.

Okay... Spoony. The man has kind of a dark and raunchy sense of humor (well, from my perspective anyway), but that is just how he is (as long as he hasn't/doesn't hurt anyone, it's just talk).

Also, the Spoony incident was already dealt with and the parties involved already cleared up the myths surrounding it. Let it go.

Finally, Mr. Lovhaug has every right to be friends with Mr. Antwiler if it suits him. Leave them be.

To everyone who read this, I'm sorry for the rant and will actually talk about the review next time.

Ouch. If this comic wasn't so obscure, I'd say nobody would've been surprised about how Starfire turned out o_O

Also, there are some pretty strange discussions going on here.

Manga ARE comics. They just happen to come from Japan, where people have a slightly different take on aesthetics and storytelling conventions

And this internet drama train concerning Spoony comes a bit late, doesn't it? Sure, he is not exactly the most stable person when it comes to anger management and should stay away from Twitter, but EVERYONE involved moved on.

I'm not going to rebut anyone here, I, and those that truly wish to see an end to Rape Culture are on the right side of history. But I challenege anyone here to present a legal framework that doesn't:

a) Blame victims - If xe says xe was raped, xe must be believed.

b) Trigger victims - A victim should not be forced to be violated and relive an attack to serve the needs of the prosecution.

c) Damage Capitalism - Privitize as much of the legal system as possible.

14:40 - Oh. Thanks. I actually thought they were being tossed out on isolated plateaus with steep sides.

20:35 - I just noticed some of these dialogue balloons have the text a little off center. It's not funny. It's just odd.

27:00 - Croissant. Is this intended to imply that she's buttery and flaky, or that she's crescent-shaped and delicious? I'm almost too frightened to ask.

28:19 - Is it just me, or does Lyra's outfit make her look like a member of the Silver Age Legion of Superheroes?

28:35 - Nova "curl?" Uh... I don't think they brought any curls, though they might have some chips around someplace. Seriously, this is really bad writing by itself, because it's all of one letter short of being a halfway understandable insult.

@Ratin8or: "...

Otherwise someone could easily say "The Bible is a Buddist text because they're both religious texts'."

Actually, in Japan, when they refer to Frozen they WOULD call it Anime. When they read American comics, they might have a special name for them, but I think they just call them "manga." Like, one Japanese guy would say to another: "I'm gonna pick up some of the new Superman manga while I'm out."

I do get that those words HERE have come to mean some different things and have cultural connotations, but I think Linkara has a really good point. All comics are comics. I mean, we have comic BOOKS and comic STRIPS, but they're still the same thing in essentials. Just because "manga" formatting or style might be a little different doesn't mean it IS NOT a "comic." It still totally is. We just USE the Japanese word Manga to categorize the kind of comic that comes from Japan--like how a Western is a KIND of movie. And in Japan, the reverse applies: just because it isn't THEIR type of manga doesn't mean it isn't manga at all.

Also, it would make more sense to say that "you could by that same logic call every book THE BIBLE" because that word--based on its origin--literally just means "BOOK."

@ N.

In other words, you want a system where you could sent anyone you don't like behind bars, just by saying they raped you, and nobody would have the right to question you?

Yeah, just keep showing us what kind of person you are.

Also, privatizing the legal system?
Gee, I can't see how that could go wrong.

Seriously N., people like you are the reason why I quit being a feminist.

"Privitize as much of the legal system as possible."

And this is where I realized you are an utter moron

Unless you mean that specifically people who think like you should own the legal system, in which case you are an egoistic sociopath

One way or another, you are not fit for human society (or any society for that matter)

I watched The Black Hole last night for probably the first time since I was 7. Lewis, I now know where the guy who wrote your music got his name from.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how expressionless those women remained throughout the whole thing.

I'm beginning to get a feel for Lobdell's humour style (he had two runs on Alpha Flight, so I know his work). Constant repetition of running gags and bad fourth-wall-breaking are rampant.

Also:
'Manga are comics' does not mean 'comics are manga'. (Especially if you add 'all' in front of those sentences, but Linkara didn't.)

Um, I don't know what to make of this.

I mean, I never even heard of this comic before this review. But looking at this, I don't know which is worse -- Bimbos in Time (deliberately intended to be the worst comic people could make) or Nova Girls, which is just photos of women pasted onto artwork.

Incidentally, you should do an episode on the so-called artwork of Greg Land very, very soon.

Arcapello said...

Why is it that I love to see you discover these horrible comic books and suffer terrible trauma because of it?
I honestly wasn't aware I hated you, Louis, but apparently I do.

Fantastic work.

Anonymous said...

If you do do Greg Land soon, may I suggest the recent X-Men run where the characters wouldn't stop smiling? So the readers end up with the shivering fits? I think it was Uncanny #530-534.
Granted, it was probably an editorial decision - it started on Whilce Portacio's run before it.

Sorry for the double post but I thought since I mentioned the Gutters about the Lobdell controversy, I should link to that. I think it's one of my favorite of theirs ever, aside from the tearjerking one with the little boy in a wheelchair holding up a new 52 Batgirl and asking his dad if he can get a reboot too. I like this one because it calls attention to the seriousness of sexual harassment while still making me laugh inappropriately (I have no idea why but apologetic Bane makes me laugh way too hard).

@ 00:22 – I thought we’ve done this before with one of the game-boy comics?

@ 01:11 – I love that artwork! It never occurred to me that he actually used models.

@ 02:32 – Why do I get the feeling that this comic is going to be like bimbos in space….

@ 04:20 – The 90’s x-men cartoon did that

@ 04:57 – That’s a stylized spatter, possibly used to try and differentiate parts of the background. It’s often used with chick action / “bad girl” type things to give it a “tough” image.

@ 05:18 – Sounds like a bunch of burlesque performers to me.

@ 06:13 – Nope google searching the two trademarks produces nothing useful

@ 08:42 – It is a common thing for “grown-ass-women” to refer to themselves as “girls”. In my experience it is for cutesy reasons. Alternatively they might be referring to themselves as the Nova Boobs… which may be more accurate than you think.

@ 08:59 – actually they’re all wearing skirts, and while not conducive to fighting crime, it’s more of an image / costuming thing than anything else I believe.

@ 09:25 – film noir sci-fi flick?

@ 09:33 – they could if that neck can coil up.

@ 10:24 – it’s some kinda sci-fi so why not?

@ 12:56 – I’m just surprised at how grainy those photos are. they must have been using really cheap film.

@ 14:50 – bwahahahaha

@ 14:56 – It’s positive reinforcement for Kan-Vass because he clearly wants the nova girls to take his pants off him… for kinky unspeakable things. *shudders*

@ 15:42 – And it’s defamation of character not inflammation of character... dumb comic.

@ 16:35 – Ugg, such a chauvinistic joke comic.

@ 17:25 – so the centipede is really called mister asp?

@ 19:15 – you mean no discernable reason other than they’re trying to get him to think with his junk rather than his brain because the dude is obviously a creeper?

@ 19:34 – Bwahahaha

@ 21:11 – funny how that joke actually IS still topical, since Bush the 2nd (the revenge) was in my mind “The Bush Error”

@ 22:09 – Women are even more vicious about these things than men are. So yes she was probably being that pissy about a padded Bra

@ 23:17 – It seems like Philidephia Mob to me, but I’m no expert. Especially since we can’t actually hear Crazy’s accent.

@ 23:53 – One can only hope princess, one can only hope.

@ 24:46 – Seconded

@ 26: 16 – actually yes, it is referencing adhesive medical strips. It’s a common thing for juvenile girls to tell the ones that still have a-cups that they don’t need to wear bras but can rather due with Band-Aids or the like. So what the comic is referencing is that the costumes are so skimpy that they were made by said medical adhesive strip company. It’s very low humor, which this book seems to be filled with.

@ 27:03 – Pfft

@ 30:13 – I think they’re relying on the idea that if you repeat something often enough it becomes funny. Which is odd… because it still isn’t funny.

@ 31:38 – Way to go Spoony.

@ 32:10 – Was that one of the limited edition Gold Morphers? Jealous

@ 32:31 – A hostile makeover = rearranging someone’s face. I actually liked that pun. Because Corperate Raiders in our world perform Hostile Takeovers.

@ 36:15 – Nope they’re breaking the 2nd and 4th walls at the same time.

@ 36:39 – Bwahahahaha. I can dude, I can.

@ 37:19 – her fist. She’s telling Kan-Vass to kiss her fist as it meets his face.

@ 39:00 – Lol and you’re just about to realize what you got yourself into in 3…2….

I can sum up this comic in one word...

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGH!!

Also, don't feel too bad about the sudden urge to hit people, Linkara. Between this, New 52 Teen Titans, Red Hood and the Outlaws, and his sexist stunt at a comic panel, I now have a greater urge to punch Scott Lobdell... Repeatedly!

And, on a side note to your Ultimate Warrior comment, I'd like to mention that the WWE just put him into their 2014 Hall of Fame.

I dunno why I bother. -_-

I am so happy to see you give Darths and Droids a shout-out, and I agree it's a great comic (that probably takes almost as much work as it would to draw).

Also, googling "Killer Secretaries" gives me more porn results than I'm comfortable with.

So, a google search seems to indicate that the "movie" they're commenting on in the beginning was the in fact "Space 34-24-34",the first issue with the Nova Girls. (http://www.misterkitty.org/extras/stupidcovers/stupidcomics294.html) And since "Space 34-24-34"w as written by Mariano Nicieza, that probably means that the "who wrote that screenplay - your brother?" jab was a reference to Fabian Nicieza. So yeah...
