We'll miss you, Justin. Great review.

"sigh" even with the high concept material that was in the comics at the time, they still could have done a decent movie by being faithful to Strange's origin, and using actual villains from the comics like Baron Mordo, or Nightmare.

Shit...ANOTHER JewWario video?

Is it me, or is JewWario becoming the new Michael Jackson?

Meaning, after Michael Jackson died, you couldn't take two steps without bumping into something Michael Jackson-related. MTV and Much Music kept replaying their videos over and over. Every single mall, taxi, grocery store or McDonald's was playing a Michael Jackson song. "This is It" got a theatrical release. Telefe ran "Moonwalker" on TV. Disney World even got rid of "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" to bring back "Captain Eo". And this kept going like that for MONTHS.

Same thing with JewWario: no one really gave a rat's ass about him when he was alive, but as soon as he died, EVERYONE in Channel Awesome started churning JewWario videos by the bucketload. I wouldn't be suprised if JewWario is worked into the King of Worms storyline, or if he shows ups in the latest Honest Trailers video.

Look, I mean no disrespect to the guy, but this is just getting ridiculous. Phillip Seymour Hoffman died not too long ago, but nobody on the internet seemed to notice or care, even though Phillip Seymour Hoffman accomplished a lot more with his life than JewWario did (again, Michael Jackson deja vu: Farrah Fawcett died around the same time as Michael Jackson, but nobody mourned her because EVERYONE was swept in the hype following Michael Jackson's death).

But then again, Linkara will throw a hissy fit AGAIN because he's too thin-skinned to accept any sort of criticism or negative comment in a JewWario video.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"But then again, Linkara will throw a hissy fit AGAIN because he's too thin-skinned to accept any sort of criticism or negative comment in a JewWario video."

I'll throw a 'hissy fit' because you're making insulting comments about a deceased friend of mine on MY blog, which you seem to be under the impression that you apparently have some sort of right to post on.

These were videos recorded before his death that people had full intentions of releasing, so there's your "nobody cared about him," dickhead.

He was our friend. We knew him personally. THAT'S why we're giving a damn about his death vs. Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Don't you tell us how we're supposed to react to his death or how we're supposed to feel about it or how painful it can be to edit something together that featured someone we knew and loved.

I'm not "throwing a hissy fit" because of any sort of criticism related to a JewWario video. I'm pissed off because you're NOT criticizing it. You're just being an asshole. None of your comments have to do with this video, but just the mere concept that JewWario is in it and we're still expressing how much we miss him.

Fuck you.

Fuck you and never come here again.

Unknown said...

all the comments i can come up with seem inappropriate given the circumstances, so I'm just gonna go with a random 'Archer' quote:

Mallory Archer:“Immigrants! That’s how they do, you know—just drive around listening to raps and shooting all the jobs.”

(God bless you, Jessica Walters)

Wow, this movie looks dull. I'm glad I didn't watch it online a long time ago. Great review of the piece. I hope all of ya'll are doing better since Justin's death.

And the worst comment ever goes to: Super Cutie Mark Crusader. Seriously, what the crap, man?

Unknown said...

As a person who is a fan of MLP and enjoyed what I saw of JewWario, I'd like to apologize for the comments made by the Fifth Cutie Mark Crusader on behalf of the Brony community. We are usually a lot more sensitive about the pain of others and aren't obnoxious jerks about things we have no right to be obnoxious about.

Jew Wario was a good person who just wanted to entertain people and the world is lesser for his loss. You did not deserve getting torn apart by a guy who should know better given his fandom and I'm ashamed that he chose to represent the Brony community by being an insensitive jerk. You have every right to kick him out on his behind for his deplorable behaviour.

May I also add I enjoyed this video, even though it made me a little sad knowing one of the chief critics involved had unfortunately passed away. It's good at least that his last bit of work was allowed to be finished, I can understand how hard it was getting something like this done. I would've said all that regardless of the situation.

You deserve people to at least show some respect and not denigrate a person who is gone. I too lost a loved one a month before JewWario's own death, so I can understand the pain you must be going through that I still am as well sometimes.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you are doing better.

For posting this video thank you Nash and thank you Linkara. I miss JewWario too. I have no words to say how much I glad that his latest work reached his fans, and how much joy was to see Justin having fun with his friends while making entertaining video for us ungrateful bastards.

Cory of PRIVATE Corp said...

"Is it me, or is JewWario becoming the new Michael Jackson?"

I thought Justin was compared to Fred Rogers.

"Same thing with JewWario: no one really gave a rat's ass about him when he was alive"

Save for, I dunno, a community of fans, people watching his livestreams, including the ones who are also suffering from ? Also, not to mentioned, websites with contributors who allowed Justin to host his videos on their sites, even allowing him to crossover in their videos or him allowing them to crossover in his videos? And, this could be a stretch, country that is the focus of his main series, to the point that people over there call him "Uncle Wario?"

Although, this leaves me asking: why am I giving a rat's ass about some idiot's disgustingly rude comment about someone who died, and that someone who is probably more important than any big name celebrity who died?

"Look, I mean no disrespect to the guy, but this is just getting ridiculous."

I dunno, it sounds like it's the opposite. But yeah this is ridiculous, although it's not in the reasons you think it is.

"Phillip Seymour Hoffman died not too long ago, but nobody on the internet seemed to notice or care, even though Phillip Seymour Hoffman accomplished a lot more with his life than JewWario did."

The thing is that Michael Jackson had an impact in a cultural sense. JewWario, on the other hand, has an impact because it is a personal connection. You couldn't achieve that sort of affect like Jackson or Hoffman, who both have created some great stuff. But I take it you don't know Justin all that well. Same goes for me. But I felt more emotion over Justin dying than the others, because of that personal connection. This is more of losing a friend that you grew up with, or even a family member.

It is that personal connection that Jackson or Hoffman doesn't have with their deaths. Sure there could be some with the latter two, but really does anyone have such a connection with those kind of celebrities? Justin is different from them. He is on the level that we knew who he is and we felt like we were friends, like family, and it really hit hard to those who knew the man in person, like those in the video. You seriously think that they would care more about a big name celebrity than someone they had fun with making a silly video for the Internet?

And yet, Justin still did a lot of things. If people really didn't give a damn, then why would he be in three movies, have crossovers, take part in livestreams, be given gifts in forms of props, game consoles and games themselves, sing songs, and, as I mentioned, have a following in a country that is a focus of his series and have said country be willing enough to give him a nickname for his videos?

I'm going to go with Lewis on this, and this isn't something I normally say on any regular basis but it needs repeating: "Fuck you."

I don't think the majority of viewers are ungrateful bastards.

Only The Fifth Cutie Mark Crusader was making insulting comments about JewWario.

No need to insult everybody.

JewWario won't want to see that.

I saw Sage put the JW hat on his shelf in his 'Outlaw Star' episode. When I saw that I thought "Is that part of some plot that I missed? Like when the N-critic 'died'?" I mean I didn't think anyone had really... I just didn't realize...

Really? What sorcery is this that makes Linkara drop f-bombs??

Oh wait its douchebaggery with a side of jackass.

Its called showing respect & kindness.

Surely Shirley said...

Just to play devil's advocate here, but I read Fifth Cutie Mark Crusader's comment, and he doesn't actually insult JewWario. It's actually him being astonished at the amount of attention given to him after his death, while in the past few years he wasn't as widely promoted. Sure, he had his "You Can Play This" series, but "You Can Play This" was never as sucessful as Brad's show or Lewis' show or even Doug's show. And he had very small supporting roles in "Kickassia", "Suburban Knights" and "To Boldly Flee". So yeah, it IS a personal reason why everyone is giving so much attention to him, so it's understandable that someone who doesn't have that personal connection is confused as the amount of screentime someone who was until now a bit player in the company is given.

In any case, while he did sound rude and hostile, Linkara's reply sounded just as rude and hostile, if not more so. Linkara is always the better man in more situations, so it sort of stuns me to see him get so aggressive and mean-spirited instead of keeping his cool and replying in a polite and civilized manner like he usually does. Likewise, this guy simply didn't know any better, so all the other commenters demonizing him strikes me as just...wrong. You are not really being better than him by acting in such a hostile and aggressive manner. You can disagree with what he said, but resorting to name-calling and sending him youtube links to "set him straight" strikes me as uncalled for.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone else think the demon sounded a bit like Bane in "Dark Knight Rises?"

On a serious note, that was something of an emotional roller coaster: laughing one second, crying the next. I know it's worth nothing from an anon, but I continue to pray for you all. RIP Justin.

Megan said...

Since Fifth Cutie Mark got torn a new one by Linkara, I won't bring that prion up.

This was a very funny and touching video. I admit to not watching Jew Wario's stuff, but only because I'm not really into videogames. But I saw him in the Anniversary vids, and he was very funny. I'm sure that his friends and family will never stop missing him.

On this pilot...thing...wow, is this 70s. It looks so gloriously, wonderfully awful. Also, was it the law that men of a certain age had to have the porn 'stache?

Perhaps I was rude, but the sheer idea that he would come to MY blog and complain about the fact that we're expressing our sorrow about a friend we've lost and are posting videos that we had filmed with him before his death? That this is somehow a BAD thing and that I need to give equal time to people whom I don't know?

No.

He had no right to say such things around here and then claim I'm a coward because I don't want disrespectful comments on MY blog, especially when there are people still grieving for Justin. He's lucky I let that comment through at all.

Surely Shirley said...

See, that's the point I'm making. To you, posting a new JewWario video is "expressing your sorrow". But to an outsider, a JewWario video is just a JewWario video. I don't think he insulted anyone, he just saw the video for what it was instead of seeing as an expression of sorrow. And again, he WAS rude, but your reply just made things worse.

What happened here is the very definition of a flame war. And nobody is "right" or "wrong" in a flame war. Nobody "wins" or "loses". I understand your sorrow, but you should have still kept your cool and replied in a more polite and less mean-spirited manner, especially since you knew it would just encourage everybody else to be just as rude as you were.

Unknown said...

I honestly don't know what to say about this review. I mean with JewWario being there and all of that--
It was flippin' hilarious regardless! XD

You guys did a great job so:
1.) Thank you for posting this, Mr. Nash and Mr. Lovhaug.
2.) Awesome review, guys!
3.) Last but surely not least, rest in peace, Mr. Carmical. We love you and miss you.

@Shirley
I understand what you are saying, but the comment was still wrong on too many counts.

I'm sorry, but I don't blame Mr. Lovhaug for being rude to that Fifth guy for his comment. Mr. Carmical was friends with a lot of people on Channel Awesome and his death hit them HARD (Mr. Carmical being the site's Mister Rogers didn't help things much either). Fifth was having a go at them for mourning and paying tribute to a friend who has passed only two months ago. Mr. Carmical's death is still affecting people and Fifth's thought/tasteless comment was like pouring mercury and vinegar on a barely healed wound.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

No.

I am under no obligation to behave in ANY particular manner when someone is rude to me on *MY* blog. Anyone with an ounce of human decency should be able to recognize the purpose of posting a video *I* was part of on the site, he offered absolutely ZERO criticism about the video itself, just about the fact that videos are still being posted involving JewWario, and I have absolutely no qualms with calling out asshole behavior and shutting it the hell down.

This is not a flame war. This is me deciding that someone has no more business posting here. They crossed a line that I will not abide and I wish to high heaven I had the ability to directly ban people from ever visiting here again. So have to settle for not letting any future posts they may make through, unless perhaps they see fit to apologize for their behavior.

I don't have to do a damn thing but provide my videos, keep spam off the comments, and try to interact with my fans - but I don't have to play nice to someone who didn't have even have any basic common decency.

End of discussion.

Unknown said...

@Surely Shirley

Um... forgive me, but isn't there someone else that you should also be directing your criticism towards?

Yes Linkara was rude in his comeback (honestly, can't blame him), but Fifth has to take some responsibility too. Fifth should have been a little more considerate and it was his comment that got some people up at arms. If anything, it was reminiscent of the trolling that takes place on Youtube. Hell, Angry Joe's ONE memorial video was infested with comments like that (and worse).

Also, this isn't a flame war. It was just some guy making an insensitive comment about a still touchy subject and feathers being ruffled by it. You can't berate Linkara for being rude without berating the other guy as well.

Kevin said...

I do agree with you about this Lewis. The Fifth Cutie Mark Crusader had no rights to say that. You guy's are just missing him cause he was your friend. Who ever this is that saying all that mean stuff is a hater. I don't think your a coward, you just don't want anyone seeing what ever he said. Its your blog, you do what you choose. Its pointless to argue about it. This reminds me of what the time traveling crunch bear said on Pokemon 4ever. Its almost like there the same person. Either way, there both wrong. Justin was a good guy and we all miss him. To me this reminds me when you reviewed the second season of mmpr and that season. Its just great to see new videos that Justin is in and once when its sadly all used up, anyone can look back on his videos in the memory of him. He was a good guy and seeing him again felt like he never died at all.

I loved in the last AT4W,how you had a JW-esque hat in the background. It had a very Jason Todd's costume feel to it. (I love DC,so thats not reductive to JW,i Think its a great memorial)

And it reminds me a big reason i love DC better, through presence of the Bat mythos they deal with loss in a very real way.
Like the Palliachi in Watchmen or (the way i feel now)Batman watching Freeze in the jail, saying he wishes there was something he could do and the implication is Batman wishes he could do something about Freeze...cause i resolved to kick ass writing so i could produce other peoples shit, like the people i watch now who dont have millions yet,and in the crossovers his comedy skills are consistent with movie quality so i wouldve hooked him up but i was too slow.
Im still going to try,so come up with good ideas cause i think i can do good by doing my plans in life.sorry if that seems like im making shit about me, i just legitimately wish this tragedy had been averted.

Thank gods his personality will live into the future through hours of internet videos.
Take care of yourself,Lewis Lovhaug.

Ok, I am jsut going to give my honest opinion of this review. Ready, everyone? It was ok. I kinda thought the humor was a tad too broad (since when was Nash the idiot? I thought he was the straight man) Also, am I the only one who is getting a little tired of FB being the overly chipper and clueless one? It wasn't funny in Kickassia and Suburban Knights and it's not funny now. Plus, I don't like the "I like potatoes" joke. That strikes me as a little....ablelist. Feel free to call me out for reading too much into it. But again, there were some humorous moments. So I can't really fault it.

The ONLY thing I am going to say about JewWario is....yeah, him getting a electrocuted and ended up in a hospital...twice. It did strike me as a tad uncomfortable. And I know that's no one's fault. It is bad timing. Maybe as time goes bad it will lessen.

Sorry if this wasn't exactly glowing but you probably already know that I only post when I REALLY feel I have to say something.

BTW, good call shutting down that asshole from above. If you one doesn't like videos with JewWario, simply don't watch them.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Sorry if this wasn't exactly glowing but you probably already know that I only post when I REALLY feel I have to say something."

And THIS, my friends, is a criticism. And that's okay if you didn't like it and you express yourself in this kind of regard.

I can't help but think how awesome it would be if Vincent Price had played Dr. Strange.

While I am not quite aware of Doctor Strange, both Pilot and Comic. I did see him some times. The first time I watched him, was in that 90s Spider-Man Cartoon, where he and Spidey Teamed up to stop that evil Baron Mondo and his cult. So it was not only the first time I seen Strange, but also was made aware of cults.

That said, the story seemed ok the review was great, but if I have to nitpick something I would say it was the outfit. I mean the one that he dressed in when that witch tried to seduce him looked closer to the guy as possible than the one his wizard friends gave him and he wouldn't be the first superhero to wear something his enemy gave him.

Nash's warning at the start of the video was most needed. This is a great review, but, just like the Pokemon 4 review coincidentally, some of the JewWario scenes feel a bit uncomfortable in hindsight.

But besides that this was a pretty damn funny review that follows up on continuity from ages back. Good Job Guys.

What's going on her is not a flame war, but rather the fair reaction to pompous douchebag incapable of empathizing with other people who tries to sell his personal opinion as fact.

RICHB said...

Wow some people are just rude jerks. Did that commenter forget you were all friends? Anyway, morons aside I have to say this review was only ok. The movie is soooo boring that it kind of hurt the review. Not saying the review is bad at all, just not the best. And kudos for standing up for yourself Linkara. I admit I was not the biggest JewWario fan out there and if I was tired of his tributes I would just not watch, not criticize. Now I am rambling so will stop now.

That was a fun crossover. Nash seemed a bit tired and Film Brain could have used a few more lines. But good jokes and slapstick kept the review enjoyable. Evil JewWario smile was great, being able to look menacing in a kilt takes some work.

Arcapello said...

Hello there,

Firstly, what I'm about to say is not without reason so I do hope it does not come off the wrong way. I'm about to state a lot of conjecture of which you might think I'm completely unqualified to say such things. Too, when I say "opinion" please bare that in mind.

I'm very glad you did release this video because it's my opinion that Justin would have wanted this footage to be seen.

I must mention something that is incredibly sensitive but something I think is a positive thing to talk about ultimately.

Note as well I have had the opportunity to talk with several people about this subject so this is not a mindless rant.

From what I have seen, Justin's passing shocked everybody he knew, his behavior being positive and constructive to the point of showing little to no indication of depression.

It is my personal opinion that, the final choice he made, was something that he had decided a very, very long time ago had to happen. It's my somewhat more conjectural opinion that he just did not want to grow old which is why time did not mature his thoughts on the matter.

I bring this up because it answers the questions I have come across of whether or not he meant all the positive things he said, whether or not he enjoyed his life and whether or not it is okay to enjoy his prolific content in the shadow of his passing.

The answer, to me, from the other side of the world, with some experience on the matter is clear; he was absolutely genuine. If he seemed like he was enjoying his life then I would say he was and that also means his contributions are not tainted by a hidden hatred for life. again, I think his final choice was something that was carried with him and planned for years and perhaps only the reversal of time and/or a good deal of counseling would have reversed this decision.

in fact, if it wasn't for his wife, friends, fans and all these reasons he had to remain productive I think he would have left us a lot sooner than he did.

Please, if you read this remember that Justin's depression was based on a fault in his thought process that was never addressed; his life appears to be the complete opposite of negativity and with great irony you can guarantee should any of his friends have decided to try and hurt themselves he would of been there trying to talk them out of it.

If you're depressed please do not keep it to yourself. If you find yourself under similar circumstances to Justin remember that there is always something you can do if you don't want to live your life - even, find stories of people moving away and living on farms, changing careers and taking time to reflect on life. Your life is incredibly precious and, most importantly, it is yours.

There is no glamor in suicide; it just brings pain and devastation and it even effects people you might not expect care about your existence.

Remember as well that you are never alone; there are always people, good people, going through it too and you would likely try to talk them out of hurting themselves if you could.

Please get help, and what's more, please know that you would be a great help to other people going through the same thing. Your life and mind are truly yours.

With that, and I hope I haven't hurt anybody with my thoughts on this, I can talk about the review.

I thought the video was okay; it reminded me a of a more lively version of rifftrax. I would have liked to have seen more
interaction and interpretations of the footage, actually, considering we have four very different reviewers watching such curious footage.

I did enjoy the live action segments, great timing and delivery as usual.

I hope you find it suitable to produce more like this in the future because it would be a shame if you didn't.

Thank you all for such a great and diverse range of entertainment.

All the best,

Arcapello

Highlander is one of my favourite movies. The Blue Öyster Cult is one of my favourite bands.
Way to kind of insult them both, guys!
(Said with sense of humour intact, and acknowledging that those both might not have been insults.)
The 'Cult would've done a much better soundtrack, btw. And Gregory Widen could probably write a very good Dr Strange movie.
... btw, Rue Ryuzaki - according to rumours, Dr Strange is on the list of upcoming Marvel movies.

I've heard "I've fallen, and I can't get up" referenced so many times... I think that's the first time I've seen the actual footage.

Clea's acting like she expects to meet Freddy Krueger here. She's just running down a dream, not in danger.

Interesting use of Pilot's Magic - though with the Ghostbusters talk, I'd've expected Mick Smiley's.

Ooh, I just saw a new Maven of the Eventide video! Yay! Lewis, I'm guessing you didn't have your make-up kit with you? (Your actual Moarte makeup is usually better.)

"JewWario: no one really gave a rat's ass about him when he was alive" - Fifth Crusader
"he doesn't actually insult JewWario" - Surely Shirley

Shirley, you have a very strange definition of 'not insult'.

I did have my usual makeup, buuuut it had been a while since I had last put it on, it was the summer, and what helps the makeup look better in the videos is a lot of the lighting and contrast adjustment to make it look more evenly-spread.

I feel sad every time I see Jew Wario now. It must have been difficult for Nash to complete this video given the circumstances.

I'll be honest with you: This TV movie was awful. I mean, I know the Incredible Hulk TV show didn't stick to the military origin but this was awful. Maybe if they put in Dormammu, it might have been better received.

Now if you excuse me, I'll be checking if Marvel Studios has announced an upcoming Dr. Strange movie as part of their cinematic mythos.

Lewis, I'm so sorry to see you have to deal with comments like that. I can only imagine how much it hurts you during your time of grieving.
